What You will Learn

This program will equip practitioners with the knowledge and skills to apply Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RODBT), an evidence-based treatment for disorders of excessive emotional overcontrol (OC), to support clients pursuing fertility treatment. Fertility treatment often necessitates a degree of self-control, such as adhering to strict medication schedules, managing stress, and adapting to lifestyle changes. While a certain level of self-control can be beneficial for treatment success, excessive or maladaptive overcontrol can significantly impact mental wellbeing. Attendees will learn how to assess maladaptive emotional overcontrol and support clients in their use of skills that promote flexible coping to optimize mental health outcomes during this challenging journey.

  • Participants will be able to identify three RODBT social safety activation skills.

  • Participants will be able to apply specific skills to enhance social connection for clients within the context of fertility treatment.

  • Participants will be able to describe the forgiveness and grief protocol within the RODBT framework.
