What You will Learn

This presentation focuses first on identifying what trauma informed care is and how it relates to substance use. It then goes over some of the main components and symptoms of both trauma and substance use, and what the interplay between the two can look like. Finally, we will discuss how these issues can lead to suicidality and some brief motivational strategies to address that.

  • Participants will be able to define what makes an organization trauma informed.

  • Participants will identify how/why substance use and trauma overlap and fuel one another’s symptoms.

  • Participants will learn about brief interventions for suicidality as a result of trauma and SUD.
